November 17, 2008- Adobe Chief Technology Officer Kevin Lynch unveiled Learning Lab, an application developed Proximity Lab for Adobe and The California Museum, during the keynote address which kicks off the Adobe MAX 2008 conference in San Francisco today.
The First Lady of California Maria Shriver, who was involved in the project as part of her educational initiatives, was also in attendance during the keynote address and for a press conference that followed. Ms. Shriver joined the Proximity Lab team along with Adobe and other partners involved in the initiative to praise our work and encourage continued development of the program. The Proximity Lab team was also invited to present our work for Adobe including the Learning Lab application at the conference.
Learning Lab is an AIR application that combines curriculum development tools for teachers with unique text and photo-based creation tools for students. It allows teachers to manage and distribute a wide range of content developed by the California Museum and organize them into assignments. The application allows teachers to select and bundle a variety of interactive student activities ranging from photo essays, text essays and multiple choice quizzes.
Learning Lab also manages student logins and automatically distributes content, pulling down video assets and interactive modules to the student's local computer as needed. The activities include rich text editing and drag and drop photo composition tools that allow students to create slide shows with photo captions and animated transitions.
Proximity Lab is in discussions with Adobe and The California Museum about developing a second generation version of Learning Lab to be included in various California school system.
