Adobe Taps Proximity Lab for Photoshop CS5
User Interface

April 12, 2010- Today Adobe announced the release of Photoshop CS5 Extended, a major upgrade to their state-of-the-art editing, compositing, and painting software. This release includes Repousse, a powerful set of 3D extrusion and inflation tools.

Adobe selected Proximity Lab in the Spring 2009 to lead the user experience and interface design for this feature set. Proximity Lab worked closely with the product development and software enginnering teams to help shape the feature requirements and user experience. Our team also conducted extensive 3D visualization studies to envision the effects, lighting, material and extrusion styles that end users might need. Our early design studies were used in focus groups and early stages of Adobe's prerelease program to confirm the direction of these features and to solicit direct feedback from users.

This engagement marks a new type of collaboration between Proximity Lab and Adobe where our team works as an extension of Adobe's product development group to shape the user experience of flagship Adobe products. Previous engagements were focused on developing showcase solutions using Adobe technologies. Due largely on this successful engagement, Adobe hired Proximity Lab to provide exprience design support for other flagship products including Adobe Elements and Acrobat Pro.
